Endocrine Ethics Consult Service
Endocrine ethics consults can range from addressing clinical ethics questions in endocrine-related contexts to research ethics questions. Common clinical endocrine ethics issues range from the duty to warn in RET mutation testing of inherited medullary thyroid cancer to diabetes patients rationing insulin to thyroid patients driving while severely hypothyroid or brittle diabetic patients driving while hypoglycemic. Common endocrine research ethics questions range from thyroid cell line cross-contamination to “usual care” diabetes studies in urban populations, to false reporting of data, intellectual property integrity and attribution to data reproducibility.
